Frequently Asked Questions

How long does an EICR take?

The time required depends on the size of the property, the number of circuits and the condition of the installation. A typical domestic inspection may take several hours, while larger properties can take longer.

How much does an EICR cost?

Please refer to our rates page for up to date pricing.

Will the electricity need to be switched off?

Yes, the power will usually need to be turned off for parts of the inspection so the circuits can be tested safely.

Does an EICR include repairs?

No. The EICR covers the inspection, testing and report. We can provide a separate estimate for any repairs or remedial work required.

What happens if my EICR is unsatisfactory?

The report will explain which issues caused the unsatisfactory result. We can provide an estimate for the required remedial work and arrange a return visit.

Do I need to empty the property?

No, but clear access will be needed to the consumer unit, sockets and other electrical points. Sensitive equipment should be safely shut down before testing begins.

How often do landlords need an EICR?

For tenancies covered by the regulations in England, the fixed electrical installation must generally be inspected at least every five years, unless the previous report requires an earlier inspection.

Can you carry out the repairs afterwards?

Yes. We can provide an estimate for any remedial work identified during the inspection.
