There is no legal requirement to PAT test every appliance. However, landlords and businesses have a legal responsibility to maintain electrical equipment in a safe condition, and PAT testing is a recognised way of demonstrating this.

What appliances can be PAT tested?

Most portable electrical appliances can be tested, including:

Computers and monitors

Kettles and microwaves

Extension leads

Power tools

What happens if an appliance fails?

If an appliance fails, it will be labelled accordingly and should be removed from service until it has been repaired or replaced. We can also advise on suitable remedial work if required.

How long does PAT testing take?

This depends on the number of appliances being tested. Smaller jobs can often be completed within an hour, while larger offices or commercial premises may take longer.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes. Once testing is complete, you'll receive a report showing the appliances tested, their results and any items that require attention.

Do you test appliances at commercial premises?

Yes. We carry out PAT testing for offices, schools, landlords, healthcare settings, retail units and other commercial properties throughout Exeter and the surrounding areas.

Can you test appliances at multiple properties?

Yes. We can arrange PAT testing across multiple sites or properties, making it easy for landlords and businesses with more than one location.
